i miss you

dearest blog,

how have you been? i miss you so much. do you miss me?

what i have been doing? oh well, i went into sabbatical from work. those 6 months was a blissful recharge, in a healthy, some sort lazy, way. people thought that i was just being couch potatoed and living off nothing with no goals, when actual fact, i am just resting my mind, taking in everything i have missed, noticing the clouds, the flowers, gary's bald patch.. you know what i mean? well, my family don't, and i think a large fraction of my friends don't too. its so difficult to explain to them.

i feel that from my school days, we are taught and made into robots, to listen and obey orders, and to join the dotted lines. so now i'm trying to free myself from that and draw outside the line. i just wanna be crazy (in a good way of course!) and accept all possibilities and question anything when in doubt.

i've started school and was fun AND tiring. i hate the travelling bit, but i like the class bit. met a couple of friends. i think the sabbatical works, 'cos i was full fledge chirpy and sunny (so says my new friend Jacky) when in school. usually, i'm not like that, i am pretty self-centred and shy when it comes to making friends in a new environment. but what i learn from my sabbatical period, was that friends only last a lifetime, and i am prolly one-third into my lifetime, i don't wanna waste that away. haha.

school was interesting. it was sort of the continuation of my sabbatical, but in a textbook way. they are teaching us to give up what we hold as the key to success (in design) and explore new fundamental crazy ways. well.. just accept that everything is possible.

also during this sabbatical period, i bonded with my mom and gary. haha. for my mom's case, i made it an effort to at least go out together on every weekend, unless it is raining, that won't be good for my sore joints.. although its only 1 day of the week, 'though short and sometimes pointless, its just neccessary.

for gary's case, i realise its been 5 years. my little buddy been there for me and i didn't really pay attention to his growth, and that really made me feel guilty. my boy. my son. my kitty. my friend. thank you gary for being there when i need you. we don't talk but you sure know when to come to comfort me when i'm not in the right of mind. what i used to be, foul mouthed and temper, you were able to bring me back to earth. i'm trying not to think of the day you will leave me, although sooner or later it will be, but i hope till then, you stay the way you are and you do the things you do.

anyway, back to a lighter note, singapore has been encountering heavy floods. hmm, i know it doesn't sound light, but that's just great news for the shopper freak in me! in the events of flash floods, i am beginning to look out for the perfect Wellies! but because its singapore, you only get the usual rubber yellow boots. yuck!

look what i've found. aren't they pretty??

"this looks so fun to wear!"

"these are my favourites.. i would love to get the white and dark blue pair"

"this is so joanne.. very cute"

"this is so french.. oui oui "

"ooh nice.. very military.. very 'nice' price tag to it too.."

simon says...

today i met mj for a meet up and were talking. talking and talking till she ask what stuff i could DO by myself, meaning, on my own, D.I.M (do it myself), do it alone.

i've been thinking. and i came to a conclusion.

  1. watch a movie
  2. pierce my ear (one of the holes)
  3. window shopping
  4. travel overseas (work needs me to do this)
  5. see the doctor when i am sick (i used to wait for my dad to bring me over to the doc)
  6. eat lunch/dinner - outside, not at home
  7. walk around in town
  8. buy a book
  9. go to the library
  10. haircut
  11. bathe 2 cats
  12. buy birthday/xmas presents
  13. go to a concert (jason mraz)
  14. go ikea to get furnitures for my room
these are so far what i have done. not really some feat.

today i also watch 'marley & me'. its a bitter sweet movie. tiring one to watch too. kinda sad end to it, though the happy sweet poster did put me off guard, thinking its all jolly holly. not one would watch to end the day i suppose.

it made me think of what would happen to gary in, lets say, 10 years? all life forms have to go one day. and it is difficult to send someone we love off to their next journey right? ever since i got gary, life been pretty funny and lucky for me. so it kind of makes me wonder what's next after gary? another cat? or a dog? a hamster or 2? chinchilla?

anywho, gary would always be a special cat to me, a cat that "maaa" instead of "meow", a cat who loves papaya, yoghurt and tomato sauce, a cat who sleeps like a human, a cat who freaks out when he sees an indian. yup. thats my gary.

the birds and the cats

i duno what's up with gary this morning. but it sure is funny seeing his figure like that. (in case you are wondering what he is sitting on, its the cats toilet) i think he is looking out for birds from this restricted angle.

ok i think i have a fetish for old stuff now. and its all etsy's fault (in a good way). other then grandma pearls i would like to have, the other thing i wish to have is something i have tons (exaggerating of course) of at home, spectacles.
i simply love these cat's eye spectacles. its old. but its timeless i feel. its USD45 by the way.. by the time i ship it over here, and change the glasses.. i don't even want to know how much it will end up in. glasses from here.

another thing i want to blog about is MINAKANI. they got great wallpapers. i been thinking alot lately to wallpaper one of my walls (but which one). i simply feeling the love for this particular piece.
and another (below) that is not too bad itself.
but i still prefer the previous one.

i have green walls so how am i going to wallpaper something of black and white. hmm..

go go green

i was busy all morning tidying up my room. 'cos i thought it be fun to just try to "pretend" i am one of those famous designers with great rooms, like those featured on Design*Sponge. i think i fail miserably. haha. gosh. if only my room is half as gorgeous as those on Design*Sponge.my giant back-to-back E (e = emily) and mini Es (see how i purposely place a book on my bed.. kinda have a interior magazine vibe.. but fail..)
my work space. a clutter. but i still love it. everything i love is on it. while i do my work, gary will look out for birds.
items on my desk. loving my spects.. watching Zoolander and BigFish dvds, reading a book. everybody needs hand cream, though i don't use it religiously. i love the smell on this hand cream (gardeners hand therapy) by Crabtree and Evelyn. my mom says it smells like an old grandma, well i love vintage.

anyway. anybody who doesn't know what is etsy is. shame on you! i simply love this website. i simple adore this page.
i love this jewelry line by 19Moons (above) and EdmDesigns (below).
really cool. i love how it is all watch movements and vintage typwriters. very 1940's. uber effing cool.

sarah, sunny and emil's last day

funny video. lighten up my mood. for a while.

today is friday. to others it will be a "yay, it fucking friday! woohoo!" friday. to some others its their last day at work. heh. the irony. this is unbecoming, almost absurd. today i bid a friend (a little sister) goodbye and 2 others too. the economy isn't helping friendships last huh.

the economy is making me gassy. my boss' personal message on msn is "singapore's economy shrunk by 16%!!". we are going to die. i heard this time its worse then 1997's recession. back then, i'm in my final year in primary school, i already have felt the pressure of 1997. my family lived in fear, fearing my dad might get retrench (my other sisters were still studying).

i feel my mood dunking down the drain. this ain't right. i need a quick perk me up. gary is no where to be seen. i will call him. "gary! garry.. " ah. here he comes.

...pat pat...
...rub rub... .
..meow meow... .
..roll roll... .
..smell smell... .
..stares...
- leaves -

its great to have a cat, or any pet. kinda pet your sorrows away. cat are great. they know when to come, and when to leave.

ok my mood is slightly better so i am going to introduce a new music video i like very much. very uplifting to the spirits. its by Oren Lavie, an Israeli director/songwrite/singer. this song was chosen for a chevrolet (a car) commercial. the video is made of several photo stills and all the production (including the actress) are from israel. great stuff.

click here to read about the behind-the-scenes take on the making of this fabulous video. enjoy. i really did enjoy this.

my first entry on a lousy slow day

today is thursday. just one day shy from the weekends, which i cant wait. but then again, i don't have plans for my weekend, except maybe a blog or 2, or a dvd or 2, or irritate Gary (my 2 year old cat) when he is sleeping.

i'm not sure what my blog is gonna be blogging about, most probably stuff i like. of course, this is my blog, obviously i will show stuff i like.

been raining lately. it is good if you happen to leave from work after the rain stops, and it sucks if you happen to leave when it just about to rain. yeah. rain. a love-hate relationship for Gary and me.

if you are wondering where i am now (2.45pm) and what i am doing now - you busybodies - i am at work, i am writing an out-of-the-blue blog, appearing 'Away' on MSN so my manufacturers won't disturb me. yep.
